Be prepared

When you call, here's how to help us help you

Know your location

Especially when calling from a mobile phone. Cross streets, building names, mile markers — anything helps us get help to you faster.

Stay on the line

Even if it feels like you've already shared everything, stay with the dispatcher. They are trained to coach you through the situation while help is en route.

Speak clearly and answer questions

Dispatchers are typing as you talk and as they ask questions. Both are happening simultaneously — you are not delaying response.

Have a phone in every bedroom

In a fire, you may not be able to reach the kitchen. Cordless phones can fail when the power is out — keep at least one charged mobile phone bedside.
